Food for Thought

I was surprisingly inspired while reading the Editors Note in GLAMOUR magazine. For one, I rarely read the editors note non-the-less read it and find inspiration. I am typically ready to jump into the content of the magazine I tend to over look. This month’s issue was different. I was drawn in because of the photographs surrounding the note; the title struck my interest and then the notes ending was the clincher - a moment of inspiration. Cindi Leive, Editor-In Chief, shared with her readers lines that were spoken at the recent Glamour's Women of the Year Awards. Those words were:

"...Some of my favorite lines were spoken by comedian Amy Poehler, who said that while the adult version of herself was slightly startled to be honored, "the 10 year-old-version of me believed that I would be here. So...close your eyes and think about what you were like when you were 10...whether you were singing into the mirror or sitting in a tree...That little person believed that you could be here. And that's why you are."

Close your eyes, revisit your 10-year-old self, believe in her dreams and then open your eyes and go..."

As I get older I get distracted from the importance of balancing responsibilities and reaching for what I once believed to be a dream. Everyday people are fulfilling dreams, goals, and aspirations. Although my dreams have changed I need to remember to still dream, set goals and accomplish them. The only person who can fulfill those goals would be myself. It’s fun to do and feels great once completed.

I hope you all enjoy Cindi's words and remember to reach for the stars....you never know, you might be a part of GLAMOUR'S Women of the Year Awards in the future.

Cheers,

Cara

stella & dot

My boyfriends sister introduced me to a fashion forward amazing new business. The company is called "stella & dot". Stella & Dot was established by Jessica Herrin who also co-founded WeddingChannel.com. Her new business model is geared towards women looking for a home based business opportunity. This new business is similar to selling Tupperware, make-up, Monavie, yet 100% better. Selling "stella & dot" is fun and easy. The product is something we all enjoy purchasing, receiving and giving...Jewelry!

Who doesn't enjoy jewelry? "Stella & Dot" is a company for men & women. You can run your own "stella & dot" business or "stella & dot" can become your new favorite jewelry provider.

Check out a few of my favorite pieces:

If you are interested in purchasing any of the items pictured above or would like to view additional selections I invite you to visit www.stelladot.com/sites/tanyaeco . Be sure to purchase through Tanyaeco {the one who introduced me}. If you are interested in starting your own "stella & dot" business you can visit her website as well to find out the details.

Enjoy,

Shoe Dazzle Update...

I have an update for all you Shoe Lovers.... A package at your door step, what a great way to start or end your day. Shoe Dazzle has arrived. The package was so cute. A pink and purple flower shoe box, awesome shoes and a pink shoe bag. Shoe Dazzle has great marketing now how about the quality of the shoe???

Two of my friends received their first Shoe Dazzle Package (I selected to hold off until after the holidays):

One friend received her shoes and they were not exactly what she expected. She selected a basic black closed toe stiletto. When they arrived she was a bit shocked as they were incredibly high and a bit hookerish. Ironically, while watching the American Music Awards I did notice this being a recent shoe trend. When I say "Hookerish" I am refering to the platform beneath the toe and the height of the heel. Of course I LOVE high heels, what better way to create the illusion of long slender legs then by wearing high heels. Sadly, the pair she received were a bit much. The good news, Shoe Dazzle provides you with free returns and the option to view alternative options. The results to come...

Now for my other friend {the one who introduced me to Shoe Dazzle} her shoes were AWESOME!!! They are stylish and can be worn with everything. What I enjoyed the most about the shoe was the influence of Shoe Dazzle. How was she influenced? It's the structure of the club, your stylist selects 5 options based on your profile. You then pick the pair you like best. The pair she received, we both agreed, would not have been a style we would have purchased at a store, yet having the push of Shoe Dazzle her shoe portfolio has now expanded to include a daring, stylish new pair of shoes. The pair she received are a brown and peach python skin high heel, criss-cross pattern up the front with a closed heel and zipper.

We all know the price we pay to look HOT when we hit the town. No different with Shoe Dazzle. When I tried on the Python Style pair of shoes and walked across the room I did find the shoe to have hints of what a night out would potentially feel like. I have a feeling they might be a bit uncomfortable. I will be sure to report back after her first Girls Night Out rocking her new hot shoes.

Do remember the club is only $40 per month. What pair of shoes in your closet including brands like Steve Madden, BCBG, Chinese Laundry, Aldo, etc. are affordable, trendy and comfortable. Sadly hot shoes that are comfortable are hard to come by, but as the old saying goes...."If the shoe fits buy, it in every color."

Until Next Time,

Cara

Helping Hand

A friend of mine is on a community service committee for work where she is accountable to organize one charity event per month. The charity event can consist of raising money or volunteering their time. Upon joining this committee she contacted me for ideas, resulting in a new idea for me to add to my blog.

As we near the holiday season...Thanksgiving only 5 days away...I thought what better time than to share different ways to give back. For some people money is the easiest, where as for others donating their time is best. Below is a list of different organizations I found to be insightful and interesting.

I encourage everyone to make it their goal to participate in at least one event per year. By giving back you appreciate what you have in a whole new way while making someone else’s life that much better.

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill

VOLUNTEER MATCH

You simply visit their website, click "Find a place to volunteer", type in your zip code and / or Keywords and hit enter. You are then provided a list of organizations in need ranging from onetime events to long term commitments.

FOODBANK OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
http://www.foodbankofsocal.org/ : Food Bank of Southern California is located in Long Beach, CA. They provide food to the "poorest of the poor" and in emergency situations. Their Mission and Belief is "to provide basic sustenance and proper nutrition to hungry citizens." They believe no individual should go hungry, not even for a day. Ways to participate in their organization would be to either host a Food Drive or Volunteer. When you volunteer you participate in collecting, sorting and repackaging food, running special events, as well as, fundraising projects.

HANNAH'S  SOCK'S
http://www.hannahssocks.org:  I was first introduced to Hannah's Socks on a Chlorox Bleach ad while reading one of my favorite magazines. I was instantly drawn to the organization because of the story. The organization began when a Hannah, a 4 year old girl, was working with her mom at a soup kitchen. Hannah saw a man with no socks and she asked her mom if she could give the man her socks. The very next day Hannah's and her mother purchased and distributed 100 pairs of socks to those less fortunate. This story was an inspiration on how simple gestures and kindness of the heart can turn into something incredibly powerful. Today Hannah's Socks is now a successful non-profit organization serving Northwest Ohio.

If you were to participate with this organization you have the option to donate socks, money, or your time.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my list of organizations. I will continue to add to this list in future postings.

Shoe Dazzle

For all you shoe lovers out there...How cool would it be to receive a new pair of shoes every month???

Over the weekend I was introduced to the newest and coolest club...a shoe club called Shoe Dazzle. ShoeDazzle.com is a monthly shoe club founded by Kim Kardashian.

The way the club works: you fill out a Fashion Profile, a team of stylists select a grouping of shoes for you to select from, and you get a new pair of shoes every month.

The membership cost is a low $39.95 and that includes shipping and returns. There are no contracts and you can even skip a month if needed.

Although I have not received my first pair of shoes friends have said the selection is great and they are comfortable too!!!

Visit Shoe Dazzel at http://www.shoedazzel.com/ and sign up to get your first pair!!!

Below are examples of their shoe selection.

The Begining....

I love to read, explore, listen and I love sharing all that I soak up with friends, friends of friends and future friends. I would like to share with you a compilation of what I have soaked up and continue to soak up with Cara's Tid Bit's....

My first bit of info to share:

My dear friend Amanda's husband Jonathon is why I decided to begin a blog, but the idea of writing triggered when I started reading Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Black Book of Networking & Little Red Book of Sales. Jeffrey Gitomer is a writer / public speaker / sales/ entrepreneur. He writes books primarily related to sales and customer service, I promise the core of his writing begins with common sense advise that we all seem to forget and could all benefit from. Going back to why I started this blog, Jeffrey Gitomer believes writing is a must as we climb the ladder of success. It doesn't matter what form of writing, just write. We are all doing what we can to be successful and every person has a different definition of success. I do my best to invest in my future and success. I encourage anyone who reads this blog to pick up a Jeffrey Gitomer book relevant to your current living or working situation and read what he has to say. Here is his website to make it a step easier in discovering and learning more about him http://www.gitomer.com/. I am confident you will enjoy his words of wisdom.

Until next time...
